How Tilt and Trim Systems Work
The tilt and trim system on an outboard or sterndrive adjusts the angle of the drive unit relative to the transom. Trim adjusts the running angle within a small range to optimize performance — trimming in (bow down) for acceleration and rough water, trimming out (bow up) for top-end speed and efficiency in calm conditions.
